1. So I have looked in to the Tacoma Power Apprenticeship, where those hired as an apprentice at Tacoma Power enroll in a program for one of the specialty areas described below. Each program requires a minimum of three and a half years to complete and includes both classroom and on-the-job training.
2. I have learned that they accept applications every one to three years when the job announcement is posted on the City of Tacoma's jobs webpage. I have learned that there are different levels of work and different duties. And it's also in Tacoma
3. This took me about half an hour since this was something I did over their website.

PROJECT: Attending worship band and playing along
1. For this assignment I attended one of our worship band's practices to play along while they practice their own songs. It was an interesting experience, since I rarely ever play for people and there I had to play for the entire group.
2. I learned that playing with a team is a different experience then just to play for yourself, it's more of a challenge for me and a lot more responsibility too.
3. The practice took two hours but it was two hours that flew by really fast!

PROJECT: Attending a guitar lesson
1. Coming back to guitar lessons after taking a break was very nervous but exciting at the same time. At the very beginning we went over the stuff I could still remember from previous lessons and from practicing by myself at home.
2. The first lesson was a success, I got learn new techniques of playing guitar and practice a new song for a worship band so I could play along.
3. The lesson took about an hour and a half since we had to go over what I could remember on my own and with a little help from the teacher. And another hour was spent to learning new things about guitar.

PROJECT: Interview
1. For the project I took two interviews. The first one was from a good friend of mine who works as a high voltage power electrician right now and the other one was from a guitar teacher. Both of those peoples' opinions are very important to me because both of them have gotten to their dream jobs!
2.I learned a lot from these guys' interviews. I learned a lot for myself and their words and actions encouraged me even more this time.
3. Each interview wasn't very long, but it was enough time for me to find out what I really needed!

An interview with Michael Povenko:
1. Which college did you go to for this career?
Or was it just a certificate that you got?
-
I went trough a local power utility
apprenticeship. After 4.5 years of school....I got a journeyman power lineman
license.
2. Was it something you wanted to do all of
you life?
-
No...I wanted to fly planes in the
military....so I attended a military high school.
3. How easy/hard was it for you to get a job
in this field?
-
Out of 800 applicants...6 were hired. I
got hired on my 3rd try.
4. Are there/were there any kind of
internships within this job?
-
No. Some utilities do offer a ride
along with a line crew for a day..
5. What did you do right after high
school? How did you pursue this job?
-
I attended school and worked. Also
tested with utilities to get an apprenticeship slot.
6. Did you get any scholarships/ fin. aids?
-
nope. It's usually all paid for by the
utility that hired you. But if you go to a Powerline college.....like
VOLTA...SLC...NWLC...AVISTA.....than they might offer financial aid...
7. Are there any other licenses that are
required for this job?
-
CDL/CRANE CERTS/HAZMAT/CPR/TECH
RESCUE...the company will train you..
8. What are some tips from you personally to
succeed in pursuing and succeeding in this job?
-
Don't give up. Don't get tickets. Don't
drink/drugs. Listen...learn...and keep on testing for jobs. You might have to
go to a line college today to get a spot.....and pray lots. It's a fun...really
dangerous job. It's not for everyone.....it ain't about the money. It's a plus
though...
Plan for the project
1.Coming up with a plan wasn't all that easy either, in this plan I needed to explain the process of project and how it going to help me to reach my goal. At first it wasn't easy to come up with a plan but once I started thinking of what I really was passionate about and what I wanted to do then it all came to me. I listed the steps of what was going to happen in this plan of my so that way it will be easier for me to put the plan together later on.
2. I learned that pre-organizing a plan was the best choice, it made the whole project so much easier for me!
3. The plan took me about an hour long because I wanted to fit all the important details in the project but the problem was where to fill them all properly.

Scholarship Applications
1. Filling out a scholarship application wasn't all that easy you know! It has requested some information about myself first, then it has asked me about my college choices about my academic and background information, finally I had to answer a couple of questions about my family's income for a successful completion of the application.
2. I learned that applications like these, especially the financial applications need a lot of information from the person applying so the can narrow the type of financial support the person needs.
3. In average this application took me about an hour, since I had to gather my thoughts together and try to remember all of my background information and I also had to find out about my family's financial status which causes me some time as well

The making of a Personal Multi-Media Video
1.In the making of the video, the hardest part was to choose the main events, experiences and other important things about my life and myself. It was kind of fun to go through so many pictures gathered from 17 years of my life. I was overwhelmed with the amount of memories from all of the events and experiences. Being limited to only a few minutes wasn't enough to express everything but it sure did help me to highlight the most significant events.
2.Besides refreshing memory with life events, I got to have some fun learning new video making/editing skills.
3.The whole project took quite a few hours because I had a difficult time choosing the most important points for the video at first, then it was just about organizing and putting everything together in one short video. Anyway, it was a fun project which has taught me organizing skills! :)
